Architecture in my view is a Sacred Activity we carry out in order to connect our past to the future without knowing what the future holds. So never mind how much we plan or allocate use for the spaces we create in our homes and towns, they are in constant contraction, expansion and change.
This Sacred Activity starts with our own primitive need seeking shelter. We therefore invariably and inherently are seeking a place of refuge. Hence our desire for the "Place" and with it a sense of belonging. From designing our villas to educational, commercial buildings and towns, we are constantly in search of the "Place" that will provide us with a sense of belonging (that can be objectively measured). If we find it or design it, then we enhance our senses and feel Enlightened. I see Enlightenment in light and not darkness hence I use light as the medium for development of my architectural concepts and consider light as architecture. I therefore refer to this Sacred Activity as the most Holy Activity we can ever undertake for our sanity and enlightenment. Hence, my concept of " Sacred Design ", formed in space as " Sacred Space", was born. Prince Firooz |
